Hello I just recently joined and I have a ? for all you bow hunters. I,m shooting a bowtech liberty at 64lbs w/ a 380gr arrow at a 27" draw. I'm shooting it at @245fps. I'm thinking of upgradeing my bow next year. My ? is if I changes bows, but shoot the same arrow will my "fps" increase or stay the same?

Not enough info here to predict anything. Arrow speed is the direct result of the size of the area under the force draw curve for the particular bow in question and the mass of the arrow. The force draw curve for the bow is dependent on the design of the bow, the cams or wheels, the length of draw, the draw weight, the amount of let-off and some other variables to a lesser extent. The area under the force draw curve represents the amount of energy the bow is capable of storing and thus delivering to the arrow when released (in a perfect world assuming 100% efficiency). So....a new or replacement 'faster' bow would exhibit the following traits....more aggressive cam style, longer draw length, heavier draw weight, lesser amount of let-off, and of course be as efficient as possible---all while shooting as light a shaft as possible. Since most or all of these things represent trade-offs in the area of shootability, each person must make a subjective decision about which of these things are most important to them. In other words, are you willing to sacrifice some shootability to gain some speed??
As a further point of interest....your existing bow could probably gain significant speed by increasing the draw weight to say 70 lbs (if it is capable and you are also capable). You could also shoot a lighter arrow (manufacturers say that you can shoot an arrow as light as 5 gr. per pound of pull weight). I would also look at efficiency.....check for friction loss in the system (lube cam axles, use roller cable guide or lube slide, and reduce the parasitic drag and load on the bow string by eliminating everything from the string that is not absolutely necessary). Of course, as I said, these things all represent trade-offs that you may not be willing to make.

Thanks for the info. I've been reading on the internet about all that and you sumed it up quick. I've been talking to guys I work with and have decided to turn my bow up some and drop down to 100gr tip for now and see that works for me. I like my bow and shoots great and also thoose new are outrageous in price. Thanks agian you have helped. John Loper

I say if it aint broke don't fix it. I shoot a 100 gr muzzy I like the light weight. My draw is 28" my arrow is a 2018 my draw pounds is 60 I tell my friend he shoots logs. But it is all about what you feel good with not what others say you should shoot. I have not bought a newer bow because like you said the new ones are way too much money for shooting a deer that can be harvested from a bow like mine that costs $250.

id say It all depends on if you can pull more weight what grain tip you go with this season and the more stuff you put on that string the slower the bow will be. the new bows are pricy but the new technology is well worth it especially the new bowtechs

You should get a PSE x-force bow, most of them shoot well over 300FPS and there pretty reasonable!

I shoot an old Hoyt thats been around since the 80's and it still shoots great. Yeah, it might not shoot 340 fps and it might not have paralell limbs or string supressors or any of that new stuff but I can still hit the 12 ring at 40 yards and thats good enough for me. I'd love a new bow too but I just don't think I need one. If it aint broke don't fix it !

all bowtec's shoot differently regardless of what the arrow wheight is or youre draw legth or the draw wheight... you could upgrade to a bowtec destoryer 350 and still have the same set up as you have you liberty, but the bowtec destory 350 will be faster, again regardless of what the arrow wheight is or youre draw legth or the draw wheight...
