After the first snow you can bet I am up at our family place in Wyoming to chase Mt. Lion with my Cuz. For years I have tried to talk him into taking some time off the ranch to enjoy the fishing. Well last week he dropped in for a break and to finally do some fishing. It has been very hot during the day, so I suggested that we hook up the air boat and make a night of bowfishing.
I could tell at first that he did not think it would be an adventure, but by the end of the night he is addicted to bowfishing in the South Louisiana marsh. As we ran across a few marsh beds to get inside of a few shallower bays, I could tell he was uncomfortable and then remembered that he could not swin. I eased back and told my 6'8" cousin that the water would be less than a foot deep.
After several missed shots, he got used to shooting under the fish with the modern fishing bows and was wacking and stacking. I swear he was a giddy as a kid and getting just as excited as my fiends two sons with the spotting of every fish. I personally like my old set up and hand spooling my arrows, but I am starting to get used to our new set ups with the reels.
around midnight we had our 5 man limit of 25 reads, 26 sheeps head and 5 flounder. the hard part was keeping them off the gator gars. Shooting gator gars are a blast, but we wanted to load him up with red fillets along with the 75 pounds of shrimp he bought to take back up to Wyoming.
It was a great night trip and after two days of catching reds on the rod, he is now looking for a camp down on the bayou to enjoy bow fishing with our gang.
